Topic: I can cook - CBeebies

Hi All,

First post here. Recently rediscovered the joys of baking now that I have young children of my own. Partly, we have CBeebies and their excellent "I can Cook" programme to thank for getting my youngsters interested in cooking and now every Sunday morning finds us baking breads, cakes and cookies! Fun, fun, fun.

Anyway, if you haven't seen it, you should be able to find some episodes on the BBC's iplayer.

The chunky Banana bread is particularly tasty!

Cheers

Re: I can cook - CBeebies

My little girl (5) loves this programme. She loves helping in the kitchen so it can only be a good thing to give her ideas yikes)

Re: I can cook - CBeebies

Hi there, my son (3) loves I can cook too. We have made the Chunky banana bread too which everone in the house loves and it was so easy. I can see he wants to try new skills he has seen on it too, such as cracking an egg open himself. He has loved to help in the kitchen for a while now, we mainly make pizza, cookies, gingerbread men, but I want to expand this. Any chance he will continue to love cooking as he grows up? His father can't cook for love or money!

Re: I can cook - CBeebies

hi,
Im a chef and my kids cook everything with me and have a say in what we eat and where it come from as well ,
they are 5 and 10 they can make bread, pastry, fresh pasta, cakes, flapjacks to name just one or two. They understand about food and where it comes form as well.
Just get them involved no matter what it is your doing in the kitchen even the washing up.
We ask them what it is they want to make and they have there own little shopping list and gather all the bits they need from shopping and then sort all the bits out they need when we get back and off we go.

They even came and chose the pig we ordered last week, pick him up on wednesday from the butcher.

Have fun and get cooking and remember to smile even when (the cookies dont taste so good we all been there )

Re: I can cook - CBeebies

Hi, as a Mum and a Food technology teacher I think I Can cook is a terrible programme! My daughter who is four loves to cook and helps me with all my cooking!

Re: I can cook - CBeebies

ooo I can cook - yuk! It depends on your definition of 'normal' food! To me normal food is spag bol, roast dinner, shepards pie. I cant see that my kids would eat most of whats on there. and the singing, WHY? so uneccessary!

to the lady wating to expand with her three year old, I've been getting my 4 year old to help make pasta sauces and then letting him mix them into the pasta etc. It is tricky when you have more than one child, but they have to take turns on different days, but I usually have someone in the kitchen helping!

Re: I can cook - CBeebies

my two love this as well. i would have never thought for them to use scissors to chop.

Re: I can cook - CBeebies

That Chunky Banana Bread sounds lovely, we'll be trying that in the holidays! xx

Re: I can cook - CBeebies

The bread is delicious me and my 3 year old daughter made it the other day. It didn't last long once her dad was home.
