This hot mulled winter punch is a wonderful warming festive drink.  Ideal with mince pies.

Ingredients

  • 18 18 Cloves
  • 1 1 Orange zest cut into large strips
  • 750ml 25½ fl oz Red wine
  • 1 1 Lemon zest cut into large strips
  • 3tbsp 3tbsp Unrefined demerara sugar (we use Billington's)
  • 1 1 Cinnamon stick(s)
  • 15g ½ oz Ginger thinly sliced and bruised

The Method Enter Bake mode

  1. Classic mode Step 1

    Push 3 cloves into each strip of orange. Mix the clove-studded orange strips and all the other ingredients together in a large pan.

    • 750ml 25½ fl oz Red wine
    • 1 1 Lemon zest cut into large strips
    • 3tbsp 3tbsp Unrefined demerara sugar (we use Billington's)
    • 1 1 Cinnamon stick(s)
    • 15g ½ oz Ginger thinly sliced and bruised
  2. Classic mode Step 2

    Add 375ml water. Bring up to simmering point on the hob.

  3. Classic mode Step 3

    Barely simmer for 15-20 minutes – do not let it boil or all the alcohol will evaporate. Serve in slightly warmed, heatproof cups or glasses.
