After a busy night of present delivering Santa will look forward to these delicious mince pies made with orange pastry and a sneaky glass of whisky. Let him know you’ve been extra good this year by leaving a few out on Christmas Eve - don’t forget a treat for the reindeers too!

Ingredients

  • 250g 8⅞ oz Plain white flour (we use Allinson) Plain white flour
  • 50g 1⅞ oz Unrefined golden caster sugar (we use Billington's)
  • 125g 4½ oz Butter (unsalted)
  • 3tbsp 3tbsp Orange juice
  • ½ ½ Orange zest
  • 6tbsp 6tbsp Mincemeat
  • 1 1 Egg(s) (free range) beaten
  • Icing sugar for dusting (we use Silver Spoon)

The Method Enter Bake mode

  1. Classic mode Step 1

       Preheat the oven to 220°C (200°C fan, gas mark 7). Grease a 16 hole mini tartlet tin.

  2. Classic mode Step 2

    Put flour and caster sugar into a large bowl. Rub the butter into the flour mixture.

    Ingredients for this step

    • 250g 8⅞ oz Plain white flour (we use Allinson) Plain white flour
    • 50g 1⅞ oz Unrefined golden caster sugar (we use Billington's)
    • 125g 4½ oz Butter (unsalted)
  3. Classic mode Step 3

    Add the finely grated zest of 1/2 orange and 2-3 tablespoons of orange juice. Mix and bring the mixture together to form a ball. Knead lightly, cover with cling film and chill for 30 minutes.

  4. Classic mode Step 4

    Roll out the pastry thinly. Use a fluted pastry cutter to press out either 16 circles if you’re making mini mince pies or 12 circles if you want to make regular sized mince pies. Use a slightly smaller cutter to make the lids. Line the tin with the larger circles.

  5. Classic mode Step 5

    Fill each with a teaspoon of mincemeat and place the smaller pastry lids on top. Brush with a little beaten egg.

    • 1 1 Egg(s) (free range) beaten
  6. Classic mode Step 6

    Bake for 10-12 minute until golden.

  7. Classic mode Step 7

    Once out of the oven dust with a little icing sugar for that perfect finishing touch.
