75 grams Cocoa Powder
200 ml Water boiling
3 tsp Bicarbonate Of Soda

180 ml Sunflower Oil

For the Icing/Decoration:

2 tbsp Cocoa Powder
50 grams Butter
2 tbsp Golden Syrup (Silver Spoon) Golden Syrup (Silver Spoon)

How to make Chocolate Cake with Coloured Chocolate Beans

  1. For the cake: heat the oven to 180°C, 350°F, gas 4. Grease and line a 23cm x 30cm|9\" x 12\" baking tin.
  2. Mix the cocoa with the boiling water. Stir in the bicarbonate of soda and set aside to cool.
  3. Whisk the eggs, sugar, oil and vanilla in a mixing bowl until blended. Stir in the flour and the cocoa mixutre until smooth. method tip
  4. Pour into the tin and bake for 30-40 minutes until risen and firm to the touch. Cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool. method tip
  5. For the icing. Melt the butter and golden syrup together with 1 tbsp water,. Beat in the icing sugar, to make a smooth icing. Add a little extra boiling water if needed. Spread over the cool cake.
  6. Scatter with the sprinkles and chocolate beans and leave to set.

"Really good!! Very dark moist tray bake chocolate cake. Far outshines the shop bought version. Just a word of warning - when you add the bicarb to the hot chocolate mix it erupts!! So use a very large container."
