Gingerbread Tree Decorations

These Gingerbread Tree Decoration biscuits can be piped with coloured icing, or you could get creative with lovely biscuit decorations that are available from good suppliers.  Bake and gift, simply place in a cellophane bag and tie with a pretty ribbon with a gift tag.

Gingerbread Tree Decorations Ingredients

125 grams Butter unsalted
150 grams Dark Muscovado (Billington's) Dark Muscovado (Billington's)
4 tbsp Golden Syrup (Silver Spoon) Golden Syrup (Silver Spoon)
300 grams Plain White Flour (Allinson Nature Friendly) Plain White Flour (Allinson Nature Friendly)
1 tsp Bicarbonate Of Soda
2 tsp Ginger ground (optional)

250 grams Golden Icing Sugar (Billington's) Golden Icing Sugar (Billington's)
1 Dried Egg White, sachet
Food colour paste, assorted

How to make Gingerbread Tree Decorations

  1. Preheat the oven to 170 C/160 C fan /Gas Mark 4. Grease and flour a baking sheet.
  2. Melt together the butter, sugar and syrup. sift together the flour, bicarbonate of soda and ground ginger, if using. Mix the melted butter mixture into the flour until the dough comes together.
  3. On a floured surface roll out teh dough to 5mm thick. Using a floured cutter, cut out your preferred shapes and transfer to the prepared baking sheet on a palette knife or similar.
  4. Bake for 12 minutes until cokked through. Have ready a skewer or cocktail stick. As soon as teh biscuits are out of teh oven and they are still soft, use teh skewer to make a hole for the ribbon to go through. Cool on a rack.
  5. Meanwhile, make the icing. Sift teh icing sugar and mix in teh egg white. Add 1 teaspoon of water and mix until te icing is quite thick and does not drop off the spoon. Add a little more water of needed. Colour with paste until the colour is as you like it.
  6. Spoon into piping bag. Decorate biscuits to your design.
