Rustic French Bread Ingredients

75 grams Very Strong Wholemeal Bread Flour (Allinson) Very Strong Wholemeal Bread Flour (Allinson)
375 grams Very Strong White Bread Flour (Allinson) Very Strong White Bread Flour (Allinson)
1.50 tbsp Golden Granulated Sugar (Billington's) Golden Granulated Sugar (Billington's)
1.50 tsp Salt
1.25 tsp Easy Bake Yeast (Allinson) Easy Bake Yeast (Allinson)
260 ml Water Warm

How to make Rustic French Bread

  1. Put the flours, sugar, salt and yeast into a bowl. method tip
  2. Mix to a soft dough with the water.
  3. Turn onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes. method tip
  4. Shape as desired and put into an appropriate greased loaf tin. method tip
  5. Cover and leave to prove until double in size. method tip
  6. Brush with warm water and bake in an oven preheated to 220 C/fan 200 C/Gas Mark 7 and immediately turn the heat down to 200 C/fan 180 C/Gas Mark 6. method tip
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes. method tip

"Brilliant bread! I made 2 baguettes, they had a deep hard crust as a rustic bread should - but I wouldn't make this as a loaf! I may cut down on the sugar next time to make it slightly softer. "
