It’s not just bread that you can make in your bread machine. This sticky ginger and marmalade is a real treat and tastes yummy.

Ingredients

  • 75g 2¾ oz Butter (unsalted)
  • 100g 3½ oz Unrefined dark muscovado sugar (we use Billington's) Unrefined dark muscovado sugar
  • 75g 2¾ oz Golden syrup (we use Silver Spoon)
  • 75g 2¾ oz Orange marmalade extra to glaze
  • 225g 8 oz Plain wholemeal flour (we use Allinson) Plain wholemeal flour
  • 1½tsp 1½tsp Baking powder
  • ½tsp ½tsp Bicarbonate of soda
  • 1tbsp 1tbsp Ginger (ground)
  • 150ml 5⅛ fl oz Milk (whole)
  • 1 1 Egg(s) (free range)
  • 3 3 Stem ginger drained and chopped

The Method Enter Bake mode

  1. Classic mode Step 1

    Remove the paddle from the baking pan in your bread machine. Line the base with baking parchment.

  2. Classic mode Step 2

    Place the butter, sugar, syrup and marmalade in a small pan and heat gently until the butter melts.

    Ingredients for this step

    • 75g 2¾ oz Butter (unsalted)
    • 100g 3½ oz Unrefined dark muscovado sugar (we use Billington's) Unrefined dark muscovado sugar
    • 75g 2¾ oz Golden syrup (we use Silver Spoon)
    • Marmalade
  3. Classic mode Step 3

    Mix the flour, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda and ginger in a mixing bowl. Add the chopped stem ginger if using.

    • 225g 8 oz Plain wholemeal flour (we use Allinson) Plain wholemeal flour
    • 1½tsp 1½tsp Baking powder
    • ½tsp ½tsp Bicarbonate of soda
    • 1tbsp 1tbsp Ginger (ground)
    • 3 3 Stem ginger drained and chopped
  4. Classic mode Step 4

    Beat the milk and egg together and add to the dry ingredients along with the butter and sugar mixture.

    • 150ml 5⅛ fl oz Milk (whole)
    • 1 1 Egg(s) (free range)
  5. Classic mode Step 5

    Pour the mixture into the baking pan and place in the bread machine. Set to bake only mode and set the timer for 45 minutes.

  6. Classic mode Step 6

    The cake should be risen and just firm to the touch. Turn out and allow to cool.
