These chocolate heart biscuits are very easy to make and are simply decorated with sugarpaste hearts. A perfect gift for someone special on valentine’s day.

Ingredients

For the biscuits

  • 100g 3½ oz Butter (unsalted) softened
  • 100g 3½ oz Unrefined golden caster sugar (we use Billington's) Unrefined golden caster sugar
  • 125g 4½ oz Plain white flour (we use Allinson) Plain white flour
  • 50g 1⅞ oz Cocoa powder
  • 1 1 Egg(s) (free range) medium

For the decoration

  • 250g 8⅞ oz Sugar paste icing white
  • Sugar paste icing red

The Method Enter Bake mode

  1. Classic mode Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C, gas mark 4) and line 2 baking sheets with baking parchment.

  2. Classic mode Step 2

    Place the butter, sugar, cocoa powder and flour into the bowl of a food processor or mixer and blend until you get fine crumbs, add the egg and mix until you get a stiff dough.

    • 50g 1⅞ oz Cocoa powder
  3. Classic mode Step 3

    Bring the dough together into a ball, wrap in cling film and chill in the fridge for about 20 minutes.

  4. Classic mode Step 4

    Lightly dust the work surface with flour and roll out the dough until it is the thickness of a £1 coin. Then cut out hearts shapes using a heart shaped cutter.

  5. Classic mode Step 5

    Place the biscuits on a baking tray and place in the oven to bake for about 10-12 minutes. Remove from the oven and leave to cool on a wire rack.

  6. Classic mode Step 6

    Whilst the biscuits are cooling roll out the icing on a surface dusted with icing sugar and using smaller heart cutters, cut out some heart shapes. When the biscuits are cool use a little water to stick the icing to the biscuits.
