These delicious belgian waffles make a delightly indulgent breakfast or a sweet treat for dessert. You could even cut out the heart shapes to serve a romantic breakfast in bed for your loved one. Drizzle with melted chocolate, dust with icing sugar or serve with a scoop or two of ice cream – they are so moreish that you will want to eat them all.

Ingredients

  • 280g 10 oz Plain white flour (we use Allinson) Plain white flour
  • 210g 7½ oz Unrefined golden caster sugar (we use Billington's) Unrefined golden caster sugar
  • 4tsp 4tsp Baking powder
  • 2 2 Egg(s) (free range)
  • 350ml 11⅞ fl oz Milk (whole)
  • 230g 8⅛ oz Butter (unsalted) melted and cooled
  • 1tsp 1tsp Vanilla extract (we use Nielsen-Massey)
  • 1tsp 1tsp Cinnamon

For the decoration

  • 100g 3½ oz Dark chocolate
  • Icing sugar (we use Silver Spoon)
  • Berries (fresh)

The Method Enter Bake mode

  1. Classic mode Step 1

    Sift together the flour, baking powder and cinnamon in a large bowl then stir in the sugar.

    Separate the eggs, beat the yolks in a small bowl then add the milk, melted butter and vanilla extract.

    • 230g 8⅛ oz Butter (unsalted) melted and cooled
    • 350ml 11⅞ fl oz Milk (whole)
    • 1tsp 1tsp Vanilla extract (we use Nielsen-Massey)
  3. Classic mode Step 3

    Gradually pour in to the dry mix and whisk together until smooth.

  4. Classic mode Step 4

    In a food mixer, beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks then carefully fold in to the batter mix.

  5. Classic mode Step 5

    Ladle a spoonful or two into the centre of a pre-heated, lightly grilled waffle maker griddle and leave to cook for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. Classic mode Step 6

    Serve warm drizzled with melted chocolate, fruit and dusted with icing sugar.
