This classic apple pie recipe is delicately flavoured with cinnamon and will be delicious served with cream or custard.

Ingredients

For the pastry

  • 225g 8 oz Plain white flour (we use Allinson) Plain white flour
  • Salt
  • 140g 5 oz Butter (unsalted) cold, cut into cubes
  • 6tsp 6tsp Water cold

For the filling

  • 4 4 Bramley apple(s) large, peeled, cored and cut into chunks
  • 1tsp 1tsp Cinnamon
  • 1tbsp 1tbsp Unrefined golden caster sugar Plus extra for sprinkling (we use Billington's) Unrefined golden caster sugar

For the glaze

  • 1tbsp 1tbsp Milk

The Method Enter Bake mode

  1. Classic mode Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan 180°C, gas mark 6) and lightly grease an 8” pie dish with butter.

  2. Classic mode Step 2

    Sieve the flour and salt into a bowl and rub in the butter until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.

    • Salt
    • 140g 5 oz Butter (unsalted) cold, cut into cubes
  3. Classic mode Step 3

    Add the cold water and use a knife to mix together, then use your hands to bring it together. Divide into 2 halves.

    • 6tsp 6tsp Water cold
  4. Classic mode Step 4

    Roll out one half into a disc large enough to line the pie dish then place into the dish lightly pressing into the corners.

  5. Classic mode Step 5

    Place the apple in a bowl and add the cinnamon and caster sugar stirring to coat the apple chunks, place this into the pie dish.

    • 4 4 Bramley apple(s) large, peeled, cored and cut into chunks
    • 1tsp 1tsp Cinnamon
    • 1tbsp 1tbsp Unrefined golden caster sugar Plus extra for sprinkling (we use Billington's) Unrefined golden caster sugar
  6. Classic mode Step 6

    Roll out the remaining half of pastry into a disc large enough to cover the pie dish. Moisten the edges with some water then lay the lid on top, lightly press the edges to join the base and lid, then trim any excess with a sharp knife. Pinch the edges of the pie all the way around.

  7. Classic mode Step 7

    Lightly brush the surface with a little milk then sprinkle over some golden caster sugar. Place in the oven to bake for 20-30 minutes, then bring out to serve.
