Energy Boosting Gym Snacks

Written by:Philippa

Most of us have indulged over the Christmas period in excessive delicious nibbles and drinks. We all know what this means! To the gym! Hands up who has made the resolution of joining the gym in the New Year? You’re not alone. Many of us are looking to become fitter, stronger and healthier than we were last year.

If you’re still reading this, it means your halfway there, congratulations! You’re on board. We have a range of snacks designed to fuel the body pre and post workout.

Lots of people say that the most important meal of the day is breakfast. This is the key time to fuel the body ready for the day ahead. If you’re planning to work out before you get to work, then these Truvia breakfast cookies are a great solution. Brimming full with slow energy releasing ingredients such as oatmeal, pumpkin seeds and chia seeds, these cookies are a great way to start your day. Truvia is sweetened from the stevia leaf and is calorie free! This ingredient is your FRIEND.

Energy balls have become an industry staple for a protein hit. This version contains peanut butter (lots of healthy fats and protein) and raw cacao powder making them feel like pure indulgence. These are great for making in advance and they’re really easy to transport. Perfect to eat about an hour before working out.  The great news about these is that they keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Perfect for grabbing on the go.

If you’re working out at the weekend, head to the kitchen after. Bananas are a great pre or post workout snack because they give you a quick burst of energy. Bananas replenish the potassium lost from sweating during your workout. Our banana pancakes are stripped back of all nasties, top them with fresh fruit and some yoghurt.

Our friends at Reflex Nutrition have shared some really great recipes with us. These are specially developed to contain protein powder and lots of natural ingredients which are flour-less, gluten free, refined sugar gree, and free from any artificial ingredients or flavourings.  Unlike traditional brownies which would typically spike your blood sugar levels, these brownies keep you fuller for longer as well as keeping blood sugar levels stable to ensure you get a good prolonged energy supply. So you can have your little treat and still know you’re fuelling your body.

Lots of you might know about Truvia- a great substitution for sugar. This calorie free sweetener gets its sweetness from the stevia plant’s  leaves. These no bake- balls are a great source of energy packed with nuts (a great source of protein), dried fruits and sweetnened with Truvia. Try our Strawberries and Cream ones, or our Ginger and Cashew Nut version.

One of the most important (and easily overlooked) things to remember is to keep hydrated.  We recommend a Bobble Bottle. It features a filtration cap which removes chlorine and other organic contaminants.

Secondly, this is more of a luxury than a necessity. We recommend getting some decent headphones. Music can play a big motivational role in fitness, if you make a playlist with your top tracks on it, you’re far more likely to succeed. These headphones from Bose are a treat.

“My background is live TV Production which has really helped me bring recipes to life. I really love helping to inspire and educate no matter what skill level our users have. I have a passion for all things ‘chocolate’ related and feel I’ve eaten enough brownies in my lifetime to help validate my (Unofficial) title as ‘Brownie Queen’.”
