Let's Raise A Toast

Written by:

New Year’s resolutions don’t always have to be about diets and cutting out the things that you love to eat. It can be about making positive changes to your everyday routine, for example, making sure that you don’t skip breakfast.

Breakfast is deemed the most important meal of the day. A substantial breakfast can set you up for the day ahead and by consuming more calories at the start of the day and fewer later on can actually help to maintain your weight.

We believe if you are going to do breakfast you need to do it right. No more soggy cornflakes; we are talking about trading up your toast and the best way to begin to do this in our opinion is by toasting up homemade bread.

Check out our simple homemade white bread recipe. This bread is best toasted the following day when it has begun to stale a little and is a great solution to reducing food wastage.

We have come up with three delicious twists to put the “mmmmm” back into your morning.

The Ultimate Mac n’ Cheese Toasted Sandwich

Two slices of homemade bread, lightly toasted under your grill and sandwiched with warm, rich, gooey mac n’ cheese straight from the oven – need we say any more?  For extra cheesiness, you could even add additional cheese to the top of the sandwich (mozzarella works well) and melt under the grill. This is sure to get your day started the right way, or alternatively would make a great Brunch idea on a weekend.

Dippy Eggs & Parmesan Soldiers

We all have fond memories of dippy eggs and soldiers. We have put a more grown up twist on this childhood favourite by toasting homemade bread, topped with parmesan shavings. Sliced into thin soldiers this breakfast is truly “egg-celent” (Yes, we went there with the puns!)

Animal Toast

Children eating all of their breakfast –  the struggle is real. We feel your pain Mums & Dads! Why not try these super simple and adorable animal toast ideas. Spread your toast with peanut butter and/or chocolate spread and decorate with fruit. This is also a great way to sneak a bit of fruit into your children’s breakfast routine.

We hope that these few ideas will add a bit of pizazz to your breakfast routine, the key being homemade bread. So, let’s raise a toast to 2018, it’s going to be a great year!
