These chocolate heart biscuits are very easy to make and are simply decorated with sugarpaste hearts. A perfect gift for someone special on valentine’s day.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C, gas mark 4) and line 2 baking sheets with baking parchment.

  2. Place the butter, sugar, cocoa powder and flour into the bowl of a food processor or mixer and blend until you get fine crumbs, add the egg and mix until you get a stiff dough.

  3. Bring the dough together into a ball, wrap in cling film and chill in the fridge for about 20 minutes.

  4. Lightly dust the work surface with flour and roll out the dough until it is the thickness of a £1 coin. Then cut out hearts shapes using a heart shaped cutter.

  5. Place the biscuits on a baking tray and place in the oven to bake for about 10-12 minutes. Remove from the oven and leave to cool on a wire rack.

  6. Whilst the biscuits are cooling roll out the icing on a surface dusted with icing sugar and using smaller heart cutters, cut out some heart shapes. When the biscuits are cool use a little water to stick the icing to the biscuits.
