About the bake

These delicious savoury muffins are a great way start to the day. They also make a nice lunchtime treat.

  1. Step 1:

    Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan 180°C, gas mark 4). Line a 12 hole muffin tin with muffin cases.

  2. Step 2:

    Place all the ingredients except 60g of the cheese in a mixing bowl and mix until just blended.

  3. Step 3:

    Spoon the mixture into the muffin cases and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

  4. Step 4:

    Bake for 20 minutes.

  5. Step 5:

    Remove from the oven and allow to stand for 5 minutes before removing from the tin. Best served warm.


    • 350g Self-raising white flour
    • 85g Margarine
    • 1 tsp Baking powder
    • 2 Egg(s) (free range) (medium, beaten)
    • 300ml Milk (semi-skimmed)
    • 2 tsp Chives (fresh, chopped)
    • 1 Courgette(s) (coarsely grated)
    • 85g Cheddar cheese
