Recycling old jam jars helps reduce the cost of jam making.  It is important to wash and sterilise all jars before using, this stops any bacteria mixing with the jam and causing it to go off.  When reusing jars check for crack and chips, these jars are not suitable for jam making.  To remove old labels and tamper tags on jars try placing in boiling water and leave for 10 minutes, this should soften the area for complete removal of the label.
