This chocolate and banana treat is a delicious twist on a traditional tea loaf.

Ingredients

  • 175g 6¼ oz Plain wholemeal flour (we use Allinson) Plain wholemeal flour
  • 150g 5⅜ oz Unrefined golden granulated sugar (we use Billington's) Unrefined golden granulated sugar
  • 25g 1 oz Cocoa powder
  • 1tsp 1tsp Bicarbonate of soda
  • 1tsp 1tsp Baking powder
  • 115g 4⅛ oz Butter (salted) melted
  • 2 2 Egg(s) (free range) lightly beaten
  • 275g 9¾ oz Banana(s) very ripe, mashed
  • 100g 3½ oz Dark chocolate cut into small chunks

The Method Enter Bake mode

  1. Classic mode Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 190°C (170°C fan, gas mark 5). Line a 900g (2lb) loaf tin with baking paper.

  2. Classic mode Step 2

    Mix the flour, golden granulated sugar, cocoa powder, bicarbonate of soda and baking powder in a bowl.

    In a seperate bowl mix the butter, eggs, bananas and chocolate together.

    • 115g 4⅛ oz Butter (salted) melted
    • 2 2 Egg(s) (free range) lightly beaten
    • 275g 9¾ oz Banana(s) very ripe, mashed
    • 100g 3½ oz Dark chocolate cut into small chunks
  4. Classic mode Step 4

    Fold the banana mixture well into the dry ingredients and place the mixture into the prepared loaf tin.

  5. Classic mode Step 5

    Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Cool in the tin and serve sliced.
