Looking for a new style to try when cake decorating your celebration cakes? This marble effect is super modern and really not as hard as you think to create. Follow our steps to give this a go.

Method

  1. Step 1:

Take a ball of white fondant, large enough to cover your cake. This will be the base layer of fondant.

  2. Step 2:

Roll out the white icing a bit and insert small amounts of the other coloured icing that you are using in random chunks or small sausage shapes. Fold the icing over a few times and repeat the process.

  3. Step 3:

Knead the icing until the colours begin to blend and create a marble effect. Do not overknead as the other colours may completely change the colour of your white fondant. Begin to roll out the icing.

  4. Step 4:

Roll out the icing until it is big enough to cover your cake and then place over your cake which is covered in buttercream.

  5. Step 5:

Use a cake smoother or your hands to smooth down the sides and top of your cake.

  6. Step 6:

Trim off any excess icing around the base of the cake.

  7. Step 7:

Decorate with ribbon and cake toppers for a finishing touch.
