It can be difficult sometimes to tell if your bread is baked through, but we have a few nifty ways of making sure your delicious homemade bread if baked to perfection, every time.

If you try these tips and you are still finding that your bread is under or over cooked, check your oven to make sure that it is getting to the temperature it should be.

Generally we feel that if we are ever in doubt, we bake it for a little bit longer...we'd rather have slightly over cooked bread than a doughy loaf.

Method

  1. Step 1

    Check Visually

After practice you'll soon be able to tell just by looking at your loaf whether it's baked or not. The crust of the bread should be firm to the touch, dry and a golden brown colour. If the crust is pale, pop it in the oven for a few more minutes.

  2. Step 2

    No Soggy Bottoms Here

Release your inner Mary Berry and tap the bottom of your bread. Take your loaf or rolls out of the oven (Carefully), turn them upside down and give the bottom a tap - it should sound hollow.

  3. Step 3

    Check the Temperature

You could use a thermometer to check the temperature of the centre of your loaf. If the temperature reads 190ºC to 200ºC your bread should be ready.
