Our team is a big fan of marmite. We love the extra salty flavour it brings to bakes. We've created some delicious cheese and marmite puff pastry swirls which are a doddle to make and a real crowd pleaser.

If you want to make your own puff pastry from scratch, just follow our recipe here

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 220°C (200°C for fan assisted ovens)/Gas Mark 7.

  2. Grate 250g of cheddar (We used a strong cheddar because we love the flavour).

  3. Spread 3 tbsp of marmite across the sheet of puff pastry using a knife, be careful as it's tricky to do!

  4. Spread the grated cheese on top of the marmite ensuring an even coverage. (You can always grate more if you want them really cheesy).

  5. It's time to roll your pastry. Start with one edge and tuck it under as you begin to roll. You'll end up with a large thing which looks like a swiss-roll. Using a sharp knife, slice into 2cm pieces.

  6. Place your slices onto a non stick baking tray and wash the top with egg. Place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes or until golden on the top.

DO NOT PUT IN FOR 20 MINUTES AT 220. THEY WERE BURNT AFTER 17.

Struggling to get the pastry to dry out while cooking in oven enough to ensure they are cooked through, very wet end result. Not happy with these at all.

Made these for the first time would agree with someone else that 3 tbsp marmite is too much as it tends to leak during cooking and the whirls end up cooking in it and then overrides the cheese flavour. They needed 30 minutes in the oven to ensure the middles are cooked. Warming the marmite beforehand so itโ€™s easier to spread is a useful tip.

Quick tip. Warm your marmite for just few seconds in the microwave makes it much easier to spread!

Love this easy recipe that I veganised to give us sustenance on our daily walks. However, rolled it the wrong way so bit raw in the middle. Maybe for the sake of idiots like me clarify which way the pastry should be rolled! ๐Ÿ˜€
