How To Create a Knitted Christmas Jumper Effect

We love a bit of festive knitwear, but we love an edible Christmas Jumper biscuit even more. The garish the better. Why not make your jumper cookies look even more realistic by creating a knitted effect. These quick decorating hacks will show you how.  

Method

  1. Begin by cutting a jumper shape out of sugapaste icing, either using a cutter or freehand using a template. Secure this on to your biscuit by brushing the back of the sugar paste with apricot jam. 

  2. Using a sharp knife score vertical lines across the jumper shape.

  3. Using the tip of your knife score small diagonal lines either side of the vertical lines (in opposite directions) this will give the knitted "stitch" pattern.

  4. Repeat this process until the whole of the jumper is covered in this pattern. You can then decorate with your Christmas design. 

  5. Alternatively, break off small pieces of fondant and roll into thin sausages, pinching them together at the top.

  6. Twist the two pieces of sugar paste together until it forms a swirl effect.

  7. Stick each strand of sugar paste to your biscuit, side by side to create a 3D knitted effect. 

  8. Repeat the process and add sleeves to your jumper design.
