About the bake

This Malted Brown loaf is delicious served warm from the oven and slathered with butter. It also is the ideal bread to make a yummy Ploughman's sandwich.

Method

  1. Step 1:

    Put the flour, salt and yeast into a bowl.

  2. Step 2:

    Combine the water, honey and sunflower oil and add to the flour mixture.

  3. Step 3:

    Mix until you have a soft dough and then knead by hand for 10 minutes or use the dough hook on your stand mixer.

  4. Step 4:

    Turn out onto a floured surface and knead and form into a long oval. Place into a greased, 450g/1 lb loaf tin.

  5. Step 5:

    Cover with oiled clingfilm and set aside to rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size. The time may vary depending on the temperature of the room.

  6. Step 6:

    Preheat your oven to 220°c/200°c fan/Gas Mark 7.

  7. Step 7:

    Once your oven has reached full temperature, place your loaf in the oven and immediately reduce the heat to 200°c/180°c fan/Gas Mark 6.

  8. Step 8:

    Bake the loaf for 30 minutes.

  9. Step 9:

    When the loaf is cooked it will sound hollow when the base is tapped.

  10. Step 10:

    Leave the loaf to cool completely on a wire rack.

    • 475g Country grain bread flour
    • 1 tbsp Sunflower oil
    • 280ml Warm water
    • 1 1/2 tsp Salt
    • 1 1/2 tsp Allinson's easy bake yeast sachet
    • 1 1/2 tsp Runny honey
