About the bake
There is nothing quite like the comforting feeling of a warm apple crumble drizzled in custard on a cold, crisp day. This recipe has all the yumminess of a traditional apple crumble with the added flavours of prunes and ground almonds and it is suitable for vegans.
Method
Step 1:
Pre-heat the oven to 180°C/350°F/gas mark 4.
Step 2:
In a medium sized saucepan cook the apples with the sugar and a splash of water until soft but not puréed.
Step 3:
Add the California Prunes and place in an oven dish. Mix together the flour, ground almonds and brown sugar then, using only your fingertips, rub the butter into the mix.
Step 4:
Sprinkle the crumble mix over the apple and California Prune mixture and place in the pre-heated oven.
Step 5:
Check after 30 minutes – the crumble is ready when it starts to bubble and the topping becomes brown and crisp. Serve hot with custard.
