About the bake
Cosying up with a warm bowl of humble crumble and a generous drizzle of custard is one of the finer things in life. Whether yours is served with ice cream, fresh cream or vanilla custard, we're yet to find a baker who doesn't love diving into a cosy crumble with their spoon on a drizzly day.
We add Billington's Golden Caster Sugar to our apple filling for the caramelly, glossy texture you'd expect from an ultimate apple crumble filling. Oh, and don't stop there with your Billington's sugar - use Billington's Unrefined Demerara Sugar in your crumble topping for a rich, crunchy finish. Just you wait to see the golden browned top glistening when you reveal this hearty bake from your oven.
It's got to be be a vanillary, silky custard with our crumble. So if you want to experience a match made in heaven give our Vanilla Custard a whirl - you'll struggle to settle for shop-bought again (it's that good!).
Method
Step 1:
Preheat the oven to 190°C/170° fan/gas 5. Mix the apples with 2 tbsp golden caster sugar and put in a the round baking dish, flattening the apples down.
Step 2:
Put the flour and 110g of golden caster sugar in a mixing bowl and slice in the cold butter and rub with your fingertips until it looks like breadcrumbs.
Step 3:
Pour the crumble mixture over the apples Gently firm the surface with the back of a fork. Sprinkle the rolled oats and demerara sugar on top if you wish.
Step 4:
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, until the top is golden
Leave to cool for 10 minutes before serving with custard, cream or ice cream.

I meant to add cinnamon into filling but forgot, so added it as topping instead - still came out amazing

Don't you have to boil the apples in caster sugar and add way more sugar!
