This is a fun idea for the kids to make over half term and are great for birthday parties too. Why not wrap them in cellophane and tie with a bow for a perfect party bag treat.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan, gas mark 6).

  2. Place the flour and butter in a bowl and rub together with your hands until it makes crumbs.

    • 280g Plain White Flour (We use Allinson)
    • 200g Butter (unsalted) (diced)
  3. Stir in the icing sugar then add the egg yolks and start squeezing the mixture together until it all binds to a dough

    • 100g Unrefined Golden Icing Sugar (We use Billington's)
    • 2 Egg yolk(s) (free range)
  4. Roll out on a lightly floured worksurface and cut into about 20 stars about 8-9 cm across at widest point.

  5. Place on a baking sheet and carefully push a lolly pop stick through the thickness of the dough Bake for 6-8 mins until just turning golden brown at the edges.

  6. Allow to cool then ice the biscuits with glacé or fondant icing and sugar sprinkles.

    • 250g Fondant Icing Sugar
  7. To make the swirl effects, add a small amount of soft, smooth jam or different colour icing to the centre of the biscuit, whilst the fondant icing is still wet. Lightly drag a cocktail stick through the icings to give the swirl effect.
