These delicious Belgian waffles make a delightful indulgent breakfast or a sweet treat for dessert. You could even cut out the heart shapes to serve a romantic breakfast in bed for your loved one. Drizzle with melted chocolate, dust with icing sugar or serve with a scoop or two of ice cream - they are so moreish that you will want to eat them all.

Method

  1. Sift together the flour, baking powder and cinnamon in a large bowl then stir in the sugar.

  2. Separate the eggs, beat the yolks in a small bowl then add the milk, melted butter and vanilla extract.

  3. Gradually pour in to the dry mix and whisk together until smooth.

  4. In a food mixer, beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks then carefully fold in to the batter mix.

  5. Ladle a spoonful or two into the centre of a pre-heated, lightly grilled waffle maker griddle and leave to cook for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. Serve warm drizzled with melted chocolate, fruit and dusted with icing sugar.
