About the bake

These Wookie Cookies (or Wookiee Cookies to be 100% accurate) are for the Star Wars fan in your life. Make a basic gingerbread recipe and then take it to the next level. They take 8-10 minutes to bake which makes them a really good quick and easy recipe which the whole family can make. We've also included a video in the tips section below in which Juliet Sear shows you how to hand paint cookies and biscuits.

Method

  1. Step 1

Place the butter and muscovado sugar in a medium saucepan and heat gently until the butter has melted and the sugar dissolved. Stir until the mixture blends together, but do not boil.

    Ingredients for this step

    • Unsalted butter (softened) (100g)
    • Billington's Unrefined Light Muscovado Sugar (50g)
  2. Step 2

Take the saucepan off the heat and sieve in the flour, bicarbonate of soda and ginger. Beat the mixture together, then add the golden syrup and beat until smooth.

    Ingredients for this step

    • Allinson's plain white flour (225g)
    • Bicarbonate of soda (1/2 tsp)
    • Ginger (2 tsp)
    • Silver spoon golden syrup (5 tbsp)
  3. Step 3

Turn the mixture out onto some cling film and pat into a flat ball, wrap tightly and chill for 30 minutes.  At the same time, preheat your oven to 190'c/170'c fan/ gas mark 4.

  4. Step 4

Roll out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and use a gingerbread man cutter to make your shapes. Use the lines of a fork to create a "hairy effect" on each biscuit.

  5. Step 5

Bake in your preheated oven for 8-9 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. Step 6

To decorate, mix up about 250g Icing Sugar according to the instruction on the packet. Colour 1/2 with black food colouring. Fill 2 piping bags with the white and the black icing.

This tip video shows you how to pipe the icing and alternative techniques if you want to add more detail to your cookies.

  7. Step 7

Pipe a "sash" onto each biscuit using the black icing starting from one shoulder going to the opposite side's waist. Add eyes to each Wookie and then a nose.

Use the white to pipe a mouth and then buttons down the sash.

Allow the icing to set before storing or eating.

"May the force be with you!"
